About Us

We are a team of 5 co-founders that are passionate about ocean conservation as well as increased waste and emission caused by the fast-growing take-out industry.

We have created a closed loop system for reusable take-out food containers that doesn’t produce any new waste at any step.

We manufacture our own, first of a kind, reusable containers made from 100% recycled ocean-bound plastic. The plastic is intercepted and recovered from rivers, beaches and coastal regions before it can enter the ocean.

Our products are all 100% recyclable and we re-recycle damaged food containers back into new ones.

Founder Rene Hallen is a passionate free diver and spends his spare time underwater where he sees the impact of plastic pollution first hand.

His passion for the ocean inspired him to change careers and to start Buoy.

He gathered a team of like-minded people with different skill sets and an abundance of experience in their fields of expertise, which makes Buoy today a viable and scalable solution for our restaurant partners and communities as a whole.

Reuse is the only real
solution!

Disposable packaging and climate change
are going hand in hand

We need to get away from the "throw-away" culture and our mission is to provide a solution

Waste from disposed food containers makes up to 25% of all trash in landfills.

In the US alone, more than 200 billion disposable food packaging items are disposed every year.

Plastic containers decompose into harmful micro-plastics over time and pollute soil and groundwater or get into water ways.

Bio-plastics and compostable need valuable resources to be produced: water, pesticides, fertilizers, energy and farmland. Once disposed into landfills, toxic methane gases (80 times more harmful than CO2) are released into the atmosphere.

With your help we can change the system to a sustainable one, good for us and for our planet!
